Attendance is mandatory for all pupils of compulsory school age. However, Stone St Mary’s Church of England Primary School will provide remote learning to pupils in circumstances when in-person attendance is either not possible or contrary to government guidance. This could include;
- occasions when school leaders decide that it is not possible for their setting to open safely, or that opening would contradict guidance from local or central government.
- occasions when individual pupils, for a limited duration, are unable to physically attend their school but are able to continue learning, for example, pupils with an infectious illness
- Remote education will be activated when there is a national or local lockdown because of government guidance or a bubble closure. If an individual or a small number of pupils need to self-isolate, they will be able to access work remotely.
Remote Learning Implementation
Our remote learning platform is google classroom which all pupils have logins for.
To maintain continuity, we will endeavour to maintain frequent pupil/teacher communication. We will ensure there are opportunities for peer and social communication through regular Microsoft Teams meetings. A daily timetable will be posted each morning for all pupils. Teachers will continue to plan the school curriculum for their year group, ensuring support and challenge are provided.
A small number of parents have been identified as having difficulty accessing remote learning for their children. The school will provide suitable resources for discussion with the parents. Printouts of work will be offered to those who require work in paper form.
Teachers will use a variety of familiar applications to keep pupils engaged. A mix of practical lessons will be delivered, to ensure children’s engagement remains high. We will contact pupils or parents by telephone to explore ways to secure re-engagement if children become disengaged. Our strong relationships will ensure we have open and honest conversations regarding remote learning. It is important that we all endeavour to support the school policy as a period of home learning can be for a sustained period.We will ensure that there is as little lost time as possible that would inevitably have an impact on learning if the future.
Pupil Progress
Teachers will use a variety of strategies as a regular feature in order to assess pupils during remote learning, using the features of a multi-functional platform, teachers can create regular, pre and post-lesson quizzes, using Kahoot and Google Forms. Teachers will also feedback on all learning during the school day.
Supporting Pupils with SEND
Teachers will differentiate appropriately for pupils with SEND. The support of adults in the home will be a significant advantage where this is possible. Teaching Assistants will also support pupils with SEND by identifying and resourcing parts of the Personalised Provision plan and any additional therapy plans that can be completed at home.
